It’s called “juice jacking.” Cybercriminals can load malware onto public USB chargers. When you plug your device into one of these infected ports, that malware can transfer to your phone or tablet. Once installed, they could potentially browse your personal data, download saved passwords, or even gain access to your accounts if you happen to enter your login credentials while connected.
Don’t Be a Victim: How to Stay Safe
The good news is that you don’t have to swear off public Wi-Fi and charging stations entirely. By taking a few simple precautions, you can significantly reduce your risk of becoming a cybercrime victim:
